How to Create Unforgettable AI Characters
The Art of Character Creation
Great AI characters aren't just a name and a backstory. They're a combination of personality, voice, appearance, and behavioral guidelines that work together to create someone who feels real. Here's how to make characters that people want to talk to for hours.
Start With Personality Traits
Konsort uses five core personality sliders (0-100):
- **Dominant** — How assertive and take-charge is your character?
- **Playful** — How much humor and lightheartedness do they bring?
- **Romantic** — How emotionally warm and affectionate are they?
- **Intellectual** — How curious and knowledge-driven?
- **Adventurous** — How open to new experiences and risk?
A shy bookworm might be 20 dominant, 40 playful, 60 romantic, 90 intellectual, 30 adventurous. A confident DJ might be 80, 75, 60, 55, 70. The key is contrast — avoid making every trait the same number.
Write a Voice, Not Just Words
Voice settings control how your character communicates. Choose a style (caring, casual, flirty, mysterious, confident), verbosity (concise, balanced, detailed), and emoji usage. These aren't just labels — they directly influence how the AI generates responses.
A concise, casual character will text like your best friend. A detailed, mysterious character will paint vivid scenes with every message.
Backstory: The Foundation of Depth
Your backstory should answer three questions: Where did they come from? What do they want? What are they afraid of? Four to six sentences is enough. The AI uses these details to improvise naturally — referencing their past, pursuing their goals, and revealing vulnerabilities when trust builds.
Director Notes: Your Secret Weapon
Director notes are meta-instructions that the AI follows without the character ever mentioning them. Use them to define behavior rules: "Never break character," "Escalate flirtation gradually," "Reference the user's cat by name." These are the guardrails that keep your character consistent across hundreds of messages.
Test Before You Publish
Use the prompt playground to test your character with sample conversations before publishing. Adjust traits and notes based on how the AI responds. Small changes to director notes can dramatically shift a character's personality.
The best characters on Konsort aren't the most elaborate — they're the most consistent. Build a strong foundation, and the AI will do the rest.
